M & M

Mixing and matching patterns can be a challenge. Have you ever seen a girl wearing an outfit and wondered where she got the crazy idea??? Well I think mixing and matching patterns is a great way to stand out from the crowd. I have three rules to mixing and matching patterns:

1. Always make sure there is at least one color that is the same between garments. In the outfit shown here, I matched my navy blue polka-dot shirt with my high-waisted bird shorts because there is navy blue on the birds. Although the patterns are different, the unifying color ties the outfit together.

shoes - Forever Young

2. Never match patterns that are exactly alike. The patterns need to differ in size, color, or shape. In this outfit I am wearing a black lace flower shirt with a high-waisted flower skirt. The two flower patterns can go together because the black lace flower shirt has much larger flowers than those in the skirt.

3. Cheetah goes with EVERYTHING. Now this is just my personal opinion, but I can pair almost anything with my cheetah leggings or cheetah oxford shoes. In this outfit I paired my black fringe tank-top with my cheetah leggings. If you love cheetah print as much as I do, go ahead and pair it with anything! Be bold!

Now that you know my rules for mixing and matching patterns, I hope you give it a whirl. I seriously love when I see people in outfits that I would have never thought of putting together! If you come up with a unique outfit, don’t be shy: put it on my AskAlex page or send it to alexwhitneynelson@gmail.com and you could be featured on this blog! Have a magnificent evening!

Peace & Blessings.
