grandma knows best.

I was ten years old and the last thing I wanted to do was taking a family walk around the park. This particular autumn day had brought out the sun, which prompted me to take off my purple furry jacket. Like always my Grandma insisted that I tie it around my waist to prevent losing my favorite jacket, horrified, I decided to keep it on to avoid the fashion crime my Grandma wanted me to commit.

It’s 2015 and not only do I purposely tie things around my waist but I do often. Who knew that my Grandma had been right all of this time. One of the hottest trends this fall is to tie plaid shirts, jean jackets, or sweatshirts around your waist and here at the University of Wyoming we are not complaining at all. With the unpredictable weather this trend is not only stylish but oh so handy.

Whether it is a day full of lecture halls and library study groups or a college basketball game this trend can kick your outfit up a notch. The best thing about it is that girls don’t get to have all of the fun; guys can join in as well. With the winter months upon us layering is a key component to not only staying warm but remaining well-dressed.

To achieve this look you need one of several things: jean jacket, plaid shirt, sweatshirt, hoodie, or even a graphic long sleeve. Add any of these items to a ripped pair of jeans with a statement tee and you’ll look effortlessly cool in a matter of seconds.

Being a college student can make you dread getting up in the mornings but finding quick fashion tricks like the one shown above can make you greet those 8 a.m. classes in style.

Wishing you a weekend full of sleep.
