almost home.

Have you ever slept so deeply that when you awoke you felt as though you were paralyzed, that even the slightest move felt impossible? Tried, one word that describes my physical and mental appearance lately, thanks finals. This week is going to be filled with 12 a.m. study sessions and last minute project details, knowing that sugar cookies are awaiting me at my grandma’s house, when I venture home.

Sitting in a small coffee shop, watching the first December snowfall made me think about the trials that this semester made me face. I’d be lying if I told you that this semester has been a walk in the park. I moved three hours away from my dad, got my first ever traffic violation, and was faced with trying to make some new friends, again. This semester of college has, by far, been the hardest one of my college career. Mostly because of the amount of creativity my classes demand and the competition that comes along with it. Throughout the semester I constantly compare my work to my classmates, feeling inadequate about everything I do. It is so very difficult to keep your individualism alive.

Although it is an uphill battle I am slowly starting to understand the importance of being “one of a kind.” Knowing that in order to succeed I need to be able to accept that different is good, that some people can draw better than you, and that my professor is not trying to tear down my self confidence when giving me feedback. There are one hundred and one things that someone can judge you on but the important thing is how you react to the criticism. So instead of crumbling to pieces when my professor rejects my project idea, I am going to redirect my idea and take in the constructive criticism, with the best attitude possible.

Schools ruff but I know after this week a month of friends, family, and free time are at my fingertips. Always surrounding myself with the most wonderful human beings possible (you know who you are). Good luck to everyone suffering from the side affects that finals produce.

Wishing everyone a good nights sleep and the motivation to study for that extra ten minutes.
